APPROVAL OF PLANNING APPLICATION FOR REDEVELOPMENT OF LAND ADJOINING THE MEADS IN FARNBOROUGH TOWN CENTRE
Rushmoor Borough Council's Planning Committee has resolved to grant planning permission for the proposed development to transform the land by The Meads shopping centre in Farnborough.
Following a public consultation held in the shopping centre last November, the application was submitted in January 2018. The proposed scheme for the site situated on the land adjacent to the Kingsmead Shopping Centre and the former Debenhams store will feature 30,000 sq ft of new shopping and restaurants, 24,000 sq ft of leisure, 68 apartments with a private communal garden, parking and a bridge link to the car park above The Gym and Sainsbury's serving the residents of the apartments, known as Centrus.
Having completed the retail, leisure and residential blocks in 2010 and the cinema and restaurants in summer 2015, this is the next phase in Key Property Investments (KPI), a joint venture between leading UK developer St. Modwen and Kuwait based Salhia Real Estate Company, regeneration of the 14-acre town centre site.
Philip Robins, Head of Major Projects (South-East) at St. Modwen said: "The latest phase of proposed development is a key part of our multi-million-pound regeneration of Farnborough town centre, and we are pleased that this important staging post was successful. We can now look to press ahead with our discussions to attract new retail and leisure lettings with the aim of achieving a start on site towards the end of the year."
