POSITIVE PUBLIC SUPPORT LEADS TO PLANNING APPLICATION FOR NEW DISTRIBUTION HUB AT CHIPPENHAM GATEWAY
Plans to transform 79 acres of land, to the north of Chippenham, into a new regional distribution park, have been formally submitted this month. This comes on the back of a positive response and support from the local community and stakeholders for the proposed scheme.
Subject to planning consent, the scheme, known as Chippenham Gateway, will provide up to 1,000,000 sq. ft. of prime storage and distribution space for firms looking to expand and grow in the area. Strategically located at junction 17 of the M4 and adjacent to the A350, Chippenham Gateway will offer an ideal hub for sizeable logistics firms looking to service the Southwest, wider West Country and South Wales from a centralised location. It will also serve to attract significant inward investment for Chippenham and create the potential for around 700 new jobs for the area.
Mark Thorne, Planning Manager for the UK’s leading regeneration specialist, St. Modwen, said:
“The M4 corridor is the ideal location for distribution companies to expand and grow their operations and strong market demand for good quality commercial, distribution and logistics space is accelerating our speculative building programme across the South West this year.”
Chippenham Gateway is the newest development proposal in St. Modwen’s South West portfolio which comprises of another 14 regeneration projects across Wiltshire, Somerset, Avon, Devon and Gloucestershire. Major projects include the £105m regeneration of Firepool in Taunton, the £400m mixed-use scheme at Locking Parklands in Weston-super-Mare, the £210m commercial development at Skypark in Exeter and four commercial and mixed-use schemes underway across Gloucestershire.
Businesses interested in design and build opportunities at Chippenham Gateway, on buildings from around 100,000 sq. ft. upwards, should contact St. Modwen joint agents JLL and Alder King in Bristol.
