JANINE APPOINTED TO SET UP ST MODWEN¹S INNOVATIVE COMMUNITY MANAGEMENT INITIATIVE

11 February 2008

Janine Parker, formerly director and head of property management in Lambert Smith Hampton¹s Bristol office, has joined St Modwen¹s South West regional office principally to undertake the role of  community asset manager for three major redevelopment schemes.

St Modwen, the UK¹s leading regeneration specialist, is  creating three new urban villages at  Littlecombe in Dursley,  Llanwern in Newport,  and Coed Darcy, near Neath and Swansea, which in total will provide some  9,000 dwellings with all necessary community facilities,  two million sq ft of employment space  and more than 10,000 jobs .

Janine, who will also deal with the estate management of St Modwen¹s existing property portfolio in the region, will oversee the  Community Interest Companies (CIC)  which St Modwen is establishing for their regeneration schemes to act as  the long term managers of the community assets created by these schemes.

The CICs will be responsible for managing the public realm and community facilities and services, including parks and green spaces, play areas and community centres, and in Littlecombe a district-wide bio-mass heating system with members of the business and residential communities contributing towards the associated cost and having a voice in the CIC.

The CICs will also be the focus for establishing/supporting  initiatives for the residents, designed to develop a sense of community and social cohesion such as sports,  clubs, farmers¹ markets and toddler groups. The intention is for residents to be involved in creating a place where they want to live.

The CICs will be set up early in the regeneration process so a framework and structure can be established which will  enable them to become self-sufficient in the management and future social development of the communities of which they should be a vital part.

The creation of CICs fit within St Modwen¹s core strategy of regeneration and will provide a long-term  legacy for the residents and businesses that will occupy the sites.
