ST. MODWEN AND DAVID WILSON HOMES AGREEMENT FOR FIRST HOUSING PHASE AT LANGFORD MEAD
11 January 2010
St. Modwen, the UK’s leading regeneration specialist, has exchanged an agreement with David Wilson Homes, to build the first phase of 119 homes at the 65 acre site at Langford Mead in Taunton. The mixed use development will eventually incorporate circa 550 homes constructed over a series of planned phases. Following the initial commercial development of the site, the first residential phase will incorporate 119 homes comprising 3, 4 and 5 bedroom houses and a small number of apartments. Once final planning approval is confirmed, work on site is anticipated to commence early 2010. Ian Guy, senior development manager for St. Modwen, comments: “The agreement for this initial phase of homes at Langford Mead identifies the site as one of the first areas to demonstrate the resilience of the Taunton market, following what has been challenging times for the UK housing sector. It is significant that Taunton is the location for one of the newest residential schemes to be announced for some time in the region. “We are pleased to be working together with David Wilson Homes on this exciting development which highlights the commitment that both parties are making to Taunton and specifically Langford Mead.” Kelvin Tutil, managing director of David Wilson South West said he was pleased to confirm that planning permission had been granted for the development and work would commence early in the New Year. “Following the success of our development at Bishops Lydeard we are delighted to be able to follow on with this initial phase of Langford Mead. We are excited at the prospect of building family homes again in Taunton and are sure that the working arrangement we have developed with St Modwen during the planning process will provide an excellent entrance to the development as a whole.’’ The residential development at Langford Mead follows three phases of commercial activity creating a 12 acre business park. Business park tenants include Booker Cash & Carry and Somerset County Council, and further space is currently available. |
