WORK STARTS ON 300,000 SQ FT NEW EARTH SOLUTIONS WASTE TREAMENT FACILITY AT ST.MODWEN’S ACCESS 18 SITE IN AVONMOUTH

10 March 2010

St. Modwen, the UK’s leading regeneration specialist, has commenced site preparatory work in its partnership with New Earth Solutions to deliver a 300,000 sq ft recycling and waste treatment facility at its Access 18 site in Avonmouth.

The initial programme of work involves remediation, enabling and access road works to the 11 acre site to prior to the construction of the facility by New Earth Solutions, which is investing £30 million in the project. New Earth Solutions anticipates creating 35 permanent new jobs at the plant once operations are fully underway.

The plant will be used to recycle and treat waste streams for the West of England Partnership, which includes the four Councils of Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire, as well as for other local authority and private sector customers.

The facility, set for completion by April 2011, aims to provide waste treatment capacity to divert waste away from landfill, providing environmental benefits and helping local authorities to meet targets. The proposed facility will be capable of processing up to 200,000 tonnes of waste per year. All processes will be carried out inside the facility which will be equipped with a comprehensive emissions management system.

Rob Skelston, Development Director for St. Modwen in the South West, comments: “We’re pleased to be starting work with New Earth Solutions on this important project, which will see a West of England based recycling facility offering a vital service of benefit to all the region’s local authority areas. It is encouraging to see work firmly underway on site just two months after planning consent was approved.”

John Baker, Project Director for New Earth Solutions based in Dorset, comments: “This is a very exciting milestone in the project and we look forward to completing these preparatory works with St. Modwen over the coming months. We are confident with the project programme and look forward to delivering a comprehensive waste treatment service to the West of England Partnership on time.”

Access 18 will also include circa 800,000 sq ft of further employment space, which will create around 2,000 jobs for the region when completed. New Earth Solutions will join existing tenants on site, national paper distributor Antalis, catering supplier Nisbet PLC, Richard Austin Alloys, Flexipads World Class Ltd. and greetings card manufacturer Budget Greeting Cards.

Over 300,000 sq ft of business accommodation has already been built and sold to date at Access 18. Thirty acres of land remain offering design and build opportunities on a leasehold and long leasehold basis ranging from 10,000 - 600,000 sq ft.
