£20 MILLION LEISURE SCHEME GIVEN GREEN LIGHT IN LONGBRIDGE

National developer St. Modwen has received planning permission for their £20 million leisure scheme, featuring six restaurants, a cinema and a fitness centre, as part of the third phase of the redevelopment of Longbridge.

The approved plan for a 65,000 sq ft scheme, continues the transformation of the former MG Rover site in south-west Birmingham, complementing the existing 450,000 sq ft provision of shops, offices and public spaces.

The decision was said to have been received unanimously by local authorities, with no discussion other than members expressing their full support.

Chris Newsome, Development Director at St. Modwen, said: “We have worked with local authorities to create a plan for the leisure scheme that best suit the needs of the community at Longbridge and will keep the public informed as these plans progress.”

The plans include a nine-screen cinema and a fitness centre, which will feature an extensive glazed area overlooking the new three-acre Austin Park, the green hub of community life in Longbridge.

The scheme, which lies adjacent to the A38 Bristol Road, is expected to open late 2019.
