£350k renovation work on new community centre completes at Locking Parklands
Work to transform the former St. Andrew’s Chapel, at Locking Parklands, into a £350,000 modern new community facility is now complete.
Joint-funded by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and lead developer and regeneration specialist St. Modwen, the newly renovated building retains some of its original features and has been named the ‘Radio Wing’ in homage to the site’s history as a radio training base for RAF personnel. When it opens to the public in early 2017, the ‘Radio Wing’, intends to offer a wide range of activities, such as toddler and pre-school groups, Cubs and Brownies, resident meetings, community events and social gatherings for the residents of Locking Parklands and the neighbouring communities of Locking Village, Flowerdown and Locking Grove.
Ian Guy, Senior Development Manager for St. Modwen, development partner for Locking Parklands, said: “Locking Parklands is a growing community which will provide around 1,450 new homes and 650,000 sq ft of new employment space long term. This 21st Century community centre is the first of several new facilities planned for Locking Parklands and will provide a focal point for surrounding community activities.”
