APPLICATION SUBMITTED FOR THE REDEVELOPMENT OF LAND ADJOINING THE MEADS IN FARNBOROUGH TOWN CENTRE

St. Modwen, owner of The Meads shopping centre in the heart of Farnborough, has submitted a planning application to Rushmoor Borough Council to transform a key site in the town centre.

Following a public consultation held in the shopping centre November last year, the plans look to redevelop the land between Kingsmead and Queensmead. The development will feature 30,000 sq ft of new shopping, 24,000 sq ft of leisure, 68 apartments with a communal garden, parking and a bridge link to the previously completed car park above The Gym.

Philip Robins, Head of Major Projects (South-East) at St. Modwen said: “The feedback from the public exhibition in November was very positive. The community was keen to see new restaurants and shops, as well as additional parking. The design was also welcomed and local people were pleased to see the empty land being utilised. The site is a key element within our multi-million-pound regeneration of Farnborough town centre, and we are pleased to have reached the milestone of submitting an application.”

The original scheme was part of a wider masterplan that received planning permission in 2004. The revised plans incorporate an improved design that looks to enhance the local retail and leisure offer. Rushmoor Borough Council will now be undertaking its own public consultation on the plans, details of which can found on the Council’s website.
