Arctic Adventure arrives in Wythenshawe for Christmas

A white Christmas is guaranteed in Wythenshawe town centre this year with its fantastic Arctic Adventure themed events programme being held every weekend from 5 December at the town’s central shopping precinct.

The Arctic Adventure, funded by town centre owner and the UK’s leading regeneration specialist, St. Modwen, will have attractions and entertainment for all of the family including:

• Father Christmas in his specially built igloo grotto

• Children’s Christmas craft workshops

• Seasonal variety shopping

• A delicious Christmas food market

The story of the programme has Father Christmas setting up his grotto in a family of penguins’ holiday igloo.

The penguins, who have had to find somewhere else to spend the run up to Christmas Eve, can be spotted in and around the shopping centre until Father Christmas leaves the igloo to deliver presents.

A children’s competition will be run to spot the penguins around the centre with prizes for the lucky winners and the chance for winning mum and dad one of five Christmas hampers stuffed with goodies from the Christmas markets.

Also paying a visit to Wythenshawe’s Arctic Adventure will be some real-life reindeer, huskies, Snowy owls and snow dogs, a treat definitely not to be missed by the children.

Victoria Nichol, Wythenshawe town centre manager, said: “The centrepiece of this year’s Christmas activity is the igloo we’ve had made for Santa’s Grotto.

“Arctic Adventure will bring the community together this Christmas along with some festive food and lots of fun. The town centre is always a bustling place and we hope that our programme with help make Christmas that little bit extra special for all of our visitors this year.”

The Arctic Adventure will kick off on Saturday 5 December and will run every weekend right through until Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 2009.
