St. Modwen Homes has highlighted its commitment to ensuring road safety at its Locking Parklands development in Weston-super-Mare by installing a new residential speed limit of 20mph throughout the development.

The new road signs have been introduced along Locking Road – the main road into the development – ensuring that residents and visitors, including building contractors and site personnel, travel through the residential area at a safe speed.

The speed limit sign also features an eye-catching poster created by a pupil from local school, Locking Primary, following a site safety visit to Locking Parklands last month.

Showcasing bags of creative flair, year six pupil Joshua Patterson impressed the St. Modwen Homes’ judges with a colourful poster, which displayed the words “stay safe on a building site!” surrounded by bricks and first aid kits. Joshua unveiled the new signs at the development along with St. Modwen Homes representatives, and was presented with a £25 voucher to spend at Toys R Us.

Neil Simpson, sales and marketing director at St. Modwen Homes said: “St. Modwen Homes is committed to delivering high-quality, attractive homes in friendly and safe communities where families can enjoy their time together.

“With lots of young families moving into the new homes at Locking Parklands, we felt it was important to remind people that this is a residential development, and have therefore adjusted the road speeds accordingly so that adults and children can enjoy the parkland, safe in the knowledge that people will drive responsibly.

“Having recently completed a site safety visit with local school children from Locking Primary – where our construction team highlighted the dangers of playing on a live building site – we were keen to get the pupils’ involvement in the creation of the speed limit signs and were delighted with the variety of colourful, informative posters we received, which reinforced our message perfectly.”

Construction is currently well underway on homes in the latest phase of the development, The Meadows, which when complete, will deliver a range of properties including two bedroom apartments, priced from £129,950 and two, three and four bedroom houses, priced from £167,950 up to £248,950. All the new properties are available under the Government’s Help to Buy scheme, under which purchasers require a deposit as low as 4%.

Joanne Jones, headteacher at Locking Primary School said: “Locking Parklands is an attractive development surrounded by open parkland and wooded areas – perfect for children to explore with friends.

“As we prepare to break up for the summer holidays, drivers need to be aware of children riding bikes and playing on the streets. By creating road safety signs and reducing the speed limit at Locking Parklands, St. Modwen Homes’ has highlighted its commitment to ensuring that children living and playing on the development can do so safely.”

When complete, the £400 million Locking Parklands mixed-use scheme – which is being developed by the UK’s leading regeneration specialist St. Modwen – will provide a range of community facilities including retail space and a library, all within walking distance of the new homes.

The Locking Parklands marketing suite, located off Farnborough Road in Locking is open for visitors seven days a week between 10am and 6pm. For further information please call the St. Modwen Homes sales team on 0844 243 4848 or visit
