St. Modwen – the UK’s leading regeneration specialist – has started work on the transformation of the Kingsmead Shopping Centre in Farnborough as part of the ongoing regeneration project to establish the town centre as a retail and leisure destination.
The western end of the existing shopping centre is undergoing a complete overhaul to accommodate a new 7-screen VUE Cinema, accompanied by new restaurants.
The scheme proposals also include a full refurbishment of the 560 space Kingsmead car park, improvements to the mall in the main square and enhanced access to the shopping centre. There will also be improved public toilets and a new Shopmobility service.
The work is expected to be complete by Summer 2014.
James Stockdale, Development Surveyor at St. Modwen, said: “We are delighted to have started work to bring VUE to Farnborough. The new cinema will transform Farnborough’s leisure offer and create an evening trade in the town centre. We are already in negotiations with a number of restaurant operators who are keen to operate alongside VUE. We hope to be able to announce some further lettings shortly.”
