COMMUNITY PROVES A BIG DRAW AT LOCKING PARKLANDS
Having the perfect neighbours is becoming an increasingly important consideration for people looking to purchase a new home, according to award-winning housebuilder St. Modwen Homes.
More and more people are citing the positive community spirit at Locking Parklands as one of the main reasons why they chose to purchase a property at the development, located off Farnborough Road in Locking, just ten minutes from Weston-super-Mare.
This news from St. Modwen Homes follows national statistics from Allianz Insurance that revealed nearly three quarters of people chatted to their neighbours at least once a week. Additionally, around 44% of people feel their neighbours are trustworthy and around a third would happily give their neighbours a key to their home.
One couple who cited the community spirit as one of the reasons they purchased a home at Locking Parklands is recently married, Alex and Nicola Hamilton. The pair purchased a three bedroom ‘Maple’ house at Locking Parklands.
Alex said: “Prior to purchasing this house, Nicola had bought one of the apartments in the first phase at Locking Parklands back in the summer of 2012. Not only was it a lovely property but, we also made lots of really close friends over the two years. Both St. Modwen Homes and the residents at Locking Parklands make a big effort to host community events, including BBQs and charity events which have been fantastic and really helped create a neighbourhood-feel at the development.”
Jo Casstles, Sales Manager at Locking Parklands said: “Nobody wants nightmare neighbours so it’s not really a surprise that finding a home with a good community feel is high on people’s list of priories when choosing a new property.
“Ever since construction began at Locking Parklands, a key focus for St. Modwen Homes has been on creating a place where a new community can flourish, through delivering public open spaces, offices and new homes. When the development is complete, it will also include shops and leisure facilities too.”
More than 215 households are now living at Locking Parklands, with purchasers ranging from first time buyers to families and downsizers. Currently, there is a mixture of two, three and four bedroom properties available to purchase at the development, priced between £183,500 and £309,995.
Alex said: “When we came to purchase our first home together, we didn’t really consider anywhere but Locking Parklands. The high ceilings, big open spaces and large windows in the houses all helped to really make the properties stand out to us, it just seemed so spacious compared to other new build homes. The house has all the features you love about a traditional, older home but with modern fixtures and fittings.”
Priced from just £244,995, the three bedroom Maple semi-detached properties benefit from a spacious living room with feature bay window, modern open plan kitchen and dining room, a balcony and en suite leading off the master bedroom and high quality fixtures and fittings included as standard.
Alex and Nicola purchased both their new house and Nicola’s apartment under the government’s Help to Buy scheme, which is available on all the new homes at Locking Parklands.
Alex said: “We purchased the house using the government’s Help to Buy scheme which meant we only needed a deposit of 5%. I’d recommend the scheme to anyone looking to buy a new home as it really can help you get onto the property ladder.”
