Completion of £2.2M road scheme opens way for 1.5m sq.ft at CENTRE 38
The completion of junction improvements on the A38, the main site access road, associated service infrastructure, has opened the way for St Modwen Developments and ProLogis to develop up to 139,350 sq m (1.5 m. sq ft) at their 120-acre joint venture development at Barton, near Burton-on-Trent, which has been renamed CENTRE 38.
A detailed planning application has now been submitted for a 92,900 sq m ( one million sq ft) rail-linked regional distribution building.
Mark Day of St Modwen, said: “It is the only planning application for a speculative rail link building of this size in the Midlands. We firmly believe in CENTRE 38 as a prime location for a distribution hub and with the road and rail infrastructure already in place, CENTRE 38 offers the most deliverable large rail linked distribution building in the Midlands.” Design and build packages are also available at CENTRE 38 for buildings in a range of sizes for lease or for sale. CENTRE 38 is expected to attract a healthy demand because of its location directly on the A38, only five miles south of the A50, M1/M6 link road.
Construction work is nearing completion on a 23,225 sq m (250,000 sq ft) national maintenance depot for Virgin’s new cross-country rail fleet, which is located on 29 acres of the site. Bombardier Transportation is to operate the £30 mil. depot which incorporate rail maintenance buildings, tracks and sidings.
