Consent given for multiplex cinema in Farnborough town centre

Planning consent has been granted to Key Property Investments Ltd, St Modwen Properties PLC’s joint venture with Salhia Real Estate Co., for the development of a nine-screen multiplex cinema in Farnborough Town Centre.

The multiplex cinema scheme, which will include a bar-restaurant and health and fitness centre, is to spearhead the southern end of Queensmead in the £60 million redevelopment of the town’s shopping centre. A start on the cinema scheme could be made by early next year.

Simon Rutter of St Modwen, said: “We are pleased to have received planning consent which enables us to market the site actively and re-instigate discussions with a number of operators who had shown interest earlier in each of the elements of this particular phase of development.

“It is the third detailed consent we have obtained for development in Farnborough town centre from Rushmoor Borough Council with whom we are working closely. A planning application for the major phase of the new town centre – a new Sainsbury’s and the replacement of existing small shops

together with leisure, office and residential space – was submitted at the

beginning of June.”

A start will be made in the autumn on Queensgate, the redevelopment of the former Post Office site into four retail units and 24 one-bedroom flats above, followed later in the year by The Mead a 2,415 sq m (26,000 sq ft) two-storey retail development in the centre of Queensmead.
