Work begins later this month on the construction by St Modwen Properties PLC, of Burgess House, a £1.8 million mixed used development at North City Shopping Centre, Harpurhey, Manchester.
The scheme, which comprises 437 sq m (4,700 sq ft) of retail space at ground floor and 409 sq m (4,400 sq ft) of first-floor office accommodation, is named after Anthony Burgess, the famous author who wrote Clockwork Orange and was born in Harpurhey.
The scheme represents the latest investment by St Modwen in the North City shopping centre which St Modwen has substantially redeveloped with the completion earlier this year of a £19 million scheme providing 11,148 sq m (120,000 sq ft ) of new shops, a market hall and a leisure centre which has been handed over to Manchester City Council.
Paul Batho of St Modwen, said: ” The scheme, which is being built speculatively, will be completed by the end of next May. We are confident in the strength of the market at North City and expect to secure tenants ahead of completion.”
Johnson Fellows is acting for St Modwen.
