Construction work begins on critical new A50 junction

Anthony Glossop, chairman of St Modwen Properties PLC, cut the first sod to signal the start of construction of the £8 million A50 junction which will pave the way for further development at Trentham Lakes Business Park, Stoke-on-Trent.

This major project, which will take some 12 months to complete, is being funded entirely by Stoke-on-Trent Regeneration, the joint venture between St Modwen Properties and Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

The new junction will provide all-directions access to the A50 from Trentham Lakes with a new bridge over the A50 providing access to the business park from the eastbound carriageway.

The completion of the new junction will open up an additional one million sq ft of development at Trentham Lakes and will contribute to major local traffic improvements.

The works are being carried out in conjunction with the Highways Agency and are programmed to be completed together with the A500 Pathfinder works in Spring 2006.

Mr Glossop said: “This project has been a long time in the making involving a great deal of time and effort by all parties to resolve the legal and technical issues involved. The commencement of works is exciting and represents a significant step in the on-going development of the Trentham Lakes site.

“The completion of the junction will enable the full development of Trentham Lakes to take place, bringing further new jobs and inward investment to Stoke. Our investment in the new junction further demonstrates our continued commitment to Stoke. I very much look forward to the opening of the completed junction next year.”
