COOMBS WOOD SCOUT AND GUIDE GROUP SECURE FREE PREMISES

The 1st Coombs Wood Scout and Guide Group has had its future secured at Coombeswood Business Park thanks to the UK’s leading regeneration company, St. Modwen.

The Group which runs Scout and Guide meetings for 130 youngsters in the area has been gifted rent free usage of its existing club house including two meeting rooms, a store and kitchen, for the next 25 years. Alongside this, St. Modwen has also contributed £5,000 towards the costs of running the building and local firm of solicitors George Green LLP has generously completed legal work for the Scout and Guide Group on the new lease for free.

“We are delighted to have been able to assist the 1st Coombs Wood Scout and Guide Group,” commented Ian Romano, senior development surveyor for St. Modwen. “Providing free premises will hopefully help secure the long term future of the club which plays such an important part in shaping the lives of youngsters in the community. By waiving the rent and contributing towards the running costs of the club, we also hope to enable the club to invest more in exciting Scout and Guide activities which will help develop the youngsters into responsible members of the local community.”

Kevin Wakerley Group Secretary for 1st Coombs Wood Scout and Guide Group added: “The premises are crucial to our Group, enabling us to run a busy programme of Scout and Guide activities on a daily basis. As with all voluntary organisations, finding the funds to keep our Group running is critical and St. Modwen’s generous donation means we now have the financial freedom to focus all of our energy on providing members with fulfilling activities and experiences. The security of a long lease also means we are now eligible to apply for funding from the National Lottery and other trusts which will hopefully enable us to raise further money for the refurbishment of our premises and ensure the Group continues to attract new members over the coming years.”

1st Coombs Wood Scout and Guide Group is always looking for new members aged between 6 and 18 years and adult volunteers. For more information, please contact Kevin at kevinwakerley@hotmail.com or 0121 550 9096

Kelly Banger for George Green LLP concluded: “We are very happy to have assisted a worthwhile cause which will benefit youngsters in our local community”.
