FARNBOROUGH¹S town centre redevelopment received a major boost on Wednesday night when Key Property Investments (KPI) gave the go ahead for five further shopping units at the heart of the project.

Rushmoor Borough Council granted planning permission to Key Property Investments (KPI) to demolish two dated units on the north side of The Mead, replacing them with 12,000 sq ft of retail space in five new retail units.

Each new unit will be two storeys in height and the construction will complete a new up-to-date street linking Princes Mead to The Meads. The new shops have been designed to complement adjoining buildings which are planned as part of the redevelopment of the town centre. They will create an attractive retail frontage onto The Meads and provide a safe environment for shoppers.

Work will begin on the site in the summer, and KPI is in discussion with current occupiers Millets about relocating into the new scheme and Classic Cleaners has relocated within the Town.

Simon Rutter, Senior Development Manager for KPI said: “We¹re very pleased that the Council has granted consent as this is an important stage in the redevelopment, which will create a seamless new street scene.”

The redeveloped town centre will create in the region of 190,000 sq ft of new retail facilities, with units ranging in size from 500 sq ft to 20,000 sq ft.

Key Property Investments (KPI) is formed by a joint venture between St Modwen Properties PLC and Salhia Real Estate Company.
