EASTER CELEBRATIONS AT LONGBRIDGE
Longbridge residents and visitors are invited to join two Easter celebrations at Longbridge town centre this April.
The first event, held by local community group God’s Heart for Longbridge, will celebrate the Christian holy day, Palm Sunday, on the concourse at Longbridge town centre on Saturday 8th April. The event, which will run from 11am to 1pm, will feature a donkey petting area in which children and adults are invited to pet the animal and learn about its significance in the events leading up to traditional Easter celebrations. Volunteers from God’s Heart for Longbridge will also be on hand to share information about the sacred day and hand out chocolate Easter eggs.
Janice Paine, from God’s Heart for Longbridge commented: “The donkey is a symbolic animal as it represents an animal of peace, which is why it was chosen by Jesus to ride into Jerusalem.
“This will be a lovely event for families with young children, who can see and pet the donkey and learn about Palm Sunday.”
On the following Saturday, a ‘handmade’ and homemade’ market will be set up outside Park Point, with stalls displaying handmade jewellery, decorations, desserts and flavoured gins and vodkas made by independent businesses and local craftsmen. The market will run from 9am to 5pm on the 15th April.
Andrea Clarke, Longbridge town centre manager, commented: “The Easter celebrations are the first of a series of events we will be running at Longbridge town centre over the coming 12 months and we think they will be very attractive to the local community and especially families with young children.”
On Saturday 8th April there will also be an art display called “The stations of the cross,” which depict Jesus Christ on the day of his crucifixion. This display will be in the window of one of the empty retail units in Longbridge town centre, from 3rd to 16th April. The artwork has been created by London artist, Jenny Hawke.
