EDMONTON GREEN LIDL STORE DOUBLES IN SIZE

Edmonton Green’s Lidl store is growing to double its current size after the supermarket retailer completed a deal to lease the two adjoining units. The store will expand to13,000 sq ft on a 20 year deal, making it one of the Centre’s biggest single stores.

Located at the Centre’s main Concourse entrance, Lidl is in a prime position, with neighbours including national retailers such as Lloyds Pharmacy, Subway and Betfred, as well as several independent traders including Dogtas, Kaimato and Cafe Doro. This is good news for the area as the expansion will create a further 10 jobs and provide additional value grocery shopping for the local community. After a period of fit out, the new store is expected to open in the summer this year.

This news comes at an exciting time for Edmonton Green which is about to embark on a £1.3m refurbishment of South Mall and has a new Travelodge hotel about to start on site. Lidl’s extension of this prominent store is part of an ongoing nationwide expansion programme.

Gary Morris, Senior Development Manager at St. Modwen commented: “Edmonton Green is thriving in what is still a period of market recovery. It is particularly positive that, as well as letting stores to new retailers, existing tenants such as Lidl are expanding in the Centre. This is good news for Edmonton Green which continues to attract household names as footfall and demand increase.”

A Lidl spokesperson commented: “Lidl has occupied the current unit since May 2008. We now look forward to opening a larger store shortly with an increased product offering and enhanced customer experience as well as offering new jobs for local people”
