Education Authority takes last available office space in Tipton Centre

St Modwen Developments Ltd, the development subsidiary of St Modwen Properties PLC, has let the remaining 223 sq m (2,404 sq ft) of office space at its Tipton Shopping Centre to Sandwell Education Authority for a new administration and training centre. The authority is also taking two retail units totalling 218 sq m (2,346 sq ft).

In renting five units, Sandwell Council is strengthening its occupation within the centre which has become an important location for the council’s services including the public library.

St Modwen also reports that the Sister Dora Hospice Appeal Fund has decided to open a permanent charity shop in the shopping centre after a six-month trial period. The Fund, which is raising money for the refurbishment of the former Bloxwich Hospital to provide hospice care for the Walsall region, has taken a five-year lease on a 63 sq m (683 sq ft) unit.

Rupert Joseland of St Modwen, said: “We are delighted that the local authority and Sister Dora have reaffirmed their confidence in the success of the centre to take further space or commit to a longer lease. In the past year we have let nine units. Only four units are available and we have interest in them.

“At times the letting of the centre has been a struggle and I know that there have been doubters who have felt we would fail. However, with current interest we are hopeful of achieving full letting later this year which will be a major milestone in this important regeneration initiative.”

The remaining units are being marketed by Andrew Thompson & Co.
