Extra town centre lighting will help fight against crime

New lighting is to be installed across the whole of Wythenshawe town centre in a bid to boost the fight against crime.

All existing lighting in the town centre is being replaced as part of the overall refurbishment currently being carried out by Redman Heenan Properties Ltd, an investment subsidiary of St Modwen Properties PLC, in partnership with Manchester City Council.

But as well as installing more town centre illumination, the company will also increase the illuminating power of each light in order to improve the effectiveness of security cameras in the dark hours.

Currently there are some 19 CCTV cameras, providing 24-hour monitoring with a manned presence in the town centre.

St Modwen has also installed security cameras covering Wythenshawe bus station, which can be monitored by the bus authority at its interchange in Altrincham.
