FARNBOROUGH FLEXES ITS MUSCLE WITH NEW GYM SIGNING

St. Modwen, the UK’s leading regeneration specialist, has moved a major step forward in its redevelopment of Farnborough town centre with the signing of The Gym Group.

The fitness chain is taking the entirety of the 13,000 sq ft first floor above New Look on Queensmead and is scheduled to open this September.

James Stockdale, development manager at St. Modwen said: “The Gym is just the latest big name to sign for the scheme and we are confident that we will be announcing more new arrivals very soon.”

The Gym Group, 2011 Budget Gym of the Year, was founded by former England squash player John Treharne in 2008 and now has 20 UK branches. It offers 24-hour affordable, accessible and flexible gyms with no contracts for users and day pass options.

Jeremy Philips, Development Director at The Gym Group, said: “We are delighted to announce our imminent arrival in Farnborough. The Meads is a very attractive proposition and we believe a high-tech, low-cost gym on Queensmead will be very popular locally.”

The first two phases of the redevelopment were completed in 2010 and in March 2012, planning consent was granted for a Vue cinema and associated restaurant units within Kingsmead Shopping Centre, which will start on site in early 2013.
