FIREPOOL MOVES FORWARD AS PLANNING CONSENT & HOUSE BUILDER CONFIRMED FOR NEW RESIDENTIAL SITE
This month sees the multi-million pound Firepool development in Taunton move forward as the site’s partner developer and leading regeneration specialist, St. Modwen, receives planning consent for the first residential phase of 49 new homes to be delivered by Acorn Property Group.
The 49 new dwellings will comprise of 45 apartments and four 4 bedroom family homes when work starts on site this autumn. They also mark the first phase of residential development at Firepool which is part of the ongoing regeneration of Somerset’s County town.
Ben Cook, Regional Residential Director for St. Modwen, said: “We are delighted to welcome Acorn Property Group on board to deliver the first phase of homes at Firepool and drive forward continued development as part of the wider master plan for the site which will see 17 acres of former brownfield land transformed into an exciting mixed-use scheme with a waterfront environment in the centre of town, all served by improved transport links.”
Councillor John Williams, leader of Taunton Deane Borough Council, said: “This is a major step forward towards regeneration of this important town centre site and I welcome it.
The fact it is coming forward now reflects the much improved market conditions and underlines the importance that the rest of the site will soon benefit from direct access off that vital new road, the Northern Inner Distributor Road, a £23 million investment. The start of the housing development and the new road construction will really kick start the regeneration of this important site. It also reflects our long held commitment to make the River Tone a focus for Taunton in the future.”
Robin Squire, Managing Director at Acorn’s Bristol office added: “We are really excited about working in Taunton with St. Modwen and Taunton Deane Borough Council to deliver this residential phase. It’s a prime riverside scheme in a quality county town”.
