Former Huddersfield employment complex transformed to provide modern business and community uses
St Modwen Ventures, a subsidiary of St Modwen Properties PLC, has transformed its investment at St Thomas’ Road, Huddersfield, through a complex series of transactions exemplifying its expertise in adding value to challenging sites.
St Modwen has successfully relocated Brook Motors into a reduced but refurbished facility on the south side of the 15-acre site it formerly occupied, securing 100 jobs. Brook Motors has taken a new 20-year lease .
The buildings vacated by Brook on the north side of St Thomas Road have been sold by St Modwen to SKA Textiles Ltd, a local business. SKA will transfer its operational activities to the premises later this year.
On the south side of St Thomas’ Road, a 2.5 acres site has been cleared and sold to the Huddersfield Christian Fellowship . The Fellowship has submitted a planning application for a new church.
At the western end of the southern site, St Modwen has been granted planning consent for 24,000 sq ft of trade park units which will be available early 2005. Construction has started on the units of between 3,500 sq ft and 8,600 sq ft . In addition, an existing 12,000 sq ft building has been sold to AJB Flooring Ltd .
The whole site was acquired by St Modwen as part of a portfolio acquired from Invensys in April 2002.
