GO-AHEAD FOR UP TO 175 HOMES ON FORMER COLLIERY SITE

Planning consent for up to 175 dwellings, including 35 affordable homes, to be built on part of the former Bestwood Colliery, North Nottingham, has been granted to St Modwen Developments Ltd by Gedling Borough Council.

St Modwen acquired the colliery site in 1997 as part of a protfolio of East Midland properties being disposed of by British Coal, and has managed it as an industrial estate while promoting the site through the Local Plan process. Half of the original site is to remain in industrial use as a St Modwen managed estate.

Ray Hill of St Modwen, said: “The site for residential development has now been put on the market. Housebuilding will commence in 2007 and when finished we believe the development will make a substantial contrubution to the regeneration of Bestwood village.”

Fisher Hargreaves Procter of Nottingham is acting on behalf of St Modwen on the sale of the land.
