Good news for Mold shopping development

St Modwen Ventures, an investment subsidiary of St Modwen Properties PLC, has been granted detailed planning permission for a £2.3 million development at The Daniel Owen Shopping Centre, Mold, and has already signed up Argos to take the largest unit.

The development will comprise seven new retail units totalling approximately 5,620 sq m (60,490 sq ft) and also involves the relocation of the market hall to re-anchor the centre, and the upgrading of the pedestrian malls.

Argos is taking a 15-year lease on 1,045 sq m (11,244 sq ft) at an annual rent of £68,000 and St Modwen is in advanced negotiations with another company for a major pre-let which is expected to be approved shortly.

A road closure application is also being made so that work on the site can begin as soon as possible.

Stephen Prosser of St Modwen, said: “We are delighted to have been granted detailed planning permission as we have a number of new retailers who are keen to gain representation in the town. We are hopeful that the road closure process will proceed smoothly to enable the development to get underway to meet the new traders’ opening dates.”

St Modwen has appointed Legat Owen (Chester) as letting agent for the new units.
