Harpurhey Leisure Centre handed over to City Council

The new state-of-the-art Harpurhey Leisure Centre, North Manchester, which includes a 25-metre swimming pool, a health and fitness centre plus a range of services and facilities for pre-school children and their parents and carers, has been handed over to Manchester City Council by developers Redman Heenan Properties Ltd.

The centre, whcih includes a Sure Start scheme, forms an integral part of the £20 million North City Centre regeneration project by Redman Heenan, the investment subsidiary of St Modwen Properties PLC, in partnership with Manchester City Council and Asda.

Construction of the leisure centre took 15 months and is scheduled to open to the public later this month.

Sure Start is well established in the Harpurhey area and the new centre will enable it to offer improved opportunities to parents and carers and help children make a successful start to their life. The facilities will include a nursery, toy library and a multi-sensory room and the swimming pool will offer activities such as aqua natal classes.
