Homes to be built on former Brierley Crystal works

St Modwen Developments Ltd has been granted outline planning permission by Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council for the redevelopment of the 10-acre site of the former Royal Brierley Crystal works. The development in Moor Street, Brierley Hill, will provide approximately 200 dwellings.

St Modwen is also seeking listed building consent for the alteration of the oldest part of the works, which will be retained and converted into apartments.

Ray Hill of St Modwen said that the site had been disused since Royal Brierley Crystal vacated in 2002.

“Redevelopment of the site will contribute significantly to the planned regeneration of Brierley Hill town centre,” he added. “St Modwen intends to clear away those buildings scheduled for demolition and remediate the site in preparation for housebuilding which should commence in 2005.”
