ICE RINK TO REOPEN WITH FAMILY FUN DAY
The ice rink at the Blue Ice Plaza Complex in Solihull will be reopening following the refurbishment of the ice pad with a celebratory day of family fun.
Saturday 24 October will offer visitors admission to public sessions for just £2.00 (additional charges apply for skate hire at £1.80 for children and £2.00 for adults). On the day there will be professional ice dance displays and fun-filled activities including face painting and children’s entertainment.
The opening day will also provide visitors with the chance to meet members of the many ice skating related clubs which are based at the Blue Ice Plaza Complex, and learn more about activities which the popular ice rink offers from Learn To Skate courses to ice hockey and speed skating clubs and disco sessions.
Jointly owned by Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council and Leisure Living Ltd – a subsidiary of St. Modwen, the UK’s leading regeneration specialist – the new ice pad has secured the future of the popular leisure destination as ice rink manager, Stuart Cummings explains:
“The ice rink is one of Solihull’s most popular leisure destinations and a huge asset to the borough. Having being closed over the summer for essential works, we are delighted to have the rink back open for the October half-term and hope both new and familiar faces will come down and join us this weekend as we celebrate our reopening. Ice skating is a great way to keep fit, make friends and learn new skills and we hope the new improved rink will encourage more people to discover the many exciting activities on offer here.”
The improvements to the ice pad have been welcomed by sports clubs based at the rink including Mohawk Speed Skating of which Gary Khan is team manager: “We are delighted to be back on our home turf and training once again alongside the staff and familiar faces who make the Blue Ice Plaza Complex such a great place to be based. The ice rink provides us with a much needed short track in which to train and we hope having the club back in Solihull will help us to attract new members interested in trying out speed skating either competitively or to hone their skills in other sports such as figure skating and ice hockey.”
Julie Rossiter, senior asset manager for St. Modwen added: “The carrying out of essential improvement works to the Blue Ice Plaza Complex including the replacement of the ice pad was crucial to securing the long term future of this popular leisure venue. The works have been successfully completed on time and we’re confident visitors to the rink will be impressed with the newly improved facilities.”
The ice rink at the Blue Ice Plaza Complex in Solihull will be open for skating sessions from 10am-4pm and 8-10:30pm on Saturday 24 October.
