ST. MODWEN is holding an information event for members of the community to come and find out more about the plans to redevelop Kirkby Town Centre.

Owner, developer and asset manager of the town centre St. Modwen will be displaying the revised plans which were recently submitted to Knowsley Council, following the announcement that Morrisons will be the supermarket to anchor the new retail scheme.

People who live and work in Kirkby are invited to the information event at 17 St. Chad’s Parade on Friday 20th October between 11.30am and 5.30pm where representatives from St. Modwen will be available to talk through the plans.

Paul Batho, Projects Director at St. Modwen, said: “We have submitted a revised planning application to reflect the requirements of Morrisons which is currently being considered by Knowsley Council. This will be determined by the planning committee in the coming weeks.

“Following a very successful consultation event, we are holding an information event for the people of Kirkby to come and talk to the team to get an update on our plans to extend and improve Kirkby Town Centre.”

Knowsley Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, Councillor Graham Morgan, said: “This is a really exciting time for Kirkby with Morrisons having agreed a deal with St. Modwen to anchor the proposed new retail development in the town centre.

“I would encourage residents and businesses to take this opportunity to come along and find out more and speak to St. Modwen about the exciting plans for the town centre.”

Morrisons will create around 200 jobs and will feature the retailer’s popular Market Street where customers can watch the store’s expert food makers, including butchers, fishmongers and bakers, prepare fresh food each day.
Work is now underway to demolish 150,000 sq ft of derelict buildings. The cleared site will make way for the new Morrisons supermarket, large shop units, pedestrian walkways that will link the existing town centre with the new development and additional car parking.

Since purchasing the town centre in November 2015, St. Modwen has carried out significant improvement work to Kirkby. These improvements have been well received by shoppers and have given confidence in the delivery of the proposed scheme, should consent be granted.

Subject to the determination of the planning application, construction work should commence next year with completion scheduled for 2019.

The planning application is due to be heard by Knowsley Council’s planning committee in November.
