JEDWARD HEADLINE FREE CONCERT IN KIRKBY FOR 2017 CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SWITCH
Around 9,000 people turned out for a truly festive extravaganza in Kirkby, organised by town centre owners St. Modwen, as Jedward took to the stage to entertain the crowds and switched on the Christmas lights.
Former X Factor finalists Jedward switched on the Christmas lights following their headlining high energy, family-themed concert on a stage in Newtown Gardens.
The musical duo was joined by 90s eclectic British dance-pop group N Trance and a host of other artists for the celebrations on Thursday 23 November. The performances were followed by a fireworks finale, sponsored by Tisdale Demolition, as the lights switched on.
Leading UK regeneration specialist St. Modwen, who own and manage Kirkby Town Centre, organised the free event for the local community.
Mike Matthews, Kirkby Town Centre Manager, said: “This year’s event was a phenomenal success and the feedback we received from the people who attended was outstanding.
“Our stellar line-up of family entertainment kept the crowd entertained. As well as getting the community together, the Christmas period will also bring tremendous economic benefit to Kirkby’s businesses. Christmas is the golden quarter of the shopping year. It’s an extremely important time for our tenants as it is the busiest time of year for trading.”
On the night, the event was streamed live via Kirkby Town Centre’s Facebook page which came alive with positive comments from people who attended the event.
Here are just some of the comments:
“You did Kirkby proud it was amazing, even better than last year.”
“What a great night. Well done to all involved.”
Fandabidosie night from entertainment to fire work display the best year by far. Kirkby town centre absolutely rocked.”
“JUST CATCHING UP FROM THE USA …. What a fabulous crowd …. loving reading all the positive posts and how so many are saying they are proud they are from Kirkby …. St. Modwen you certainly are doing what you said you would do and are bringing ‘life’ back to the Town Centre … Good job Mike.”
“I can’t get over how brilliant this night was last year, but this year was even better. Me and my kids danced are little legs off. St. Modwen what a night you put on.”
The free concert triggered a month of celebrations in Kirkby Town Centre. Families can step inside a giant snow globe on Saturday 9 December and an animatronic Snow Lion will be visiting on Saturday 16 December, while the Kirkby Toy Appeal launches on Friday 1 December.
Late night shopping is now underway in the weeks leading up to Christmas. The festive celebrations followed a season of successful summer events that were enjoyed by hundreds of people in the town centre, including the hugely popular ‘Urban Beach’.
