HRH The Princess Royal (Princess Anne) shakes hands with St. Modwen’s Andrew Day

HRH The Princess Royal visited Kirkby Town Centre last week to officially open the new Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) premises in the town.

St. Modwen’s Andrew Day and Mike Matthews attended the occasion which celebrated and recognised the CAB, it’s impact and importance for the residents of Kirkby and beyond.

A lifeline for the local community, Citizens Advice Knowsley provide local people with free, impartial, independent and confidential advice. They give information and practical support on a range of matters, including debt management advice, benefit application support and food and fuel assistance.

The CAB moved to larger premises in Kirkby Town Centre earlier this year. The new premises have significantly better training facilities for their volunteers and is much more accessible and visible for the local community.

HRH The Princess Royal unveiled a new plaque of honour within the premises during the celebrations. The CAB team also met with HRH to share their roles, experiences and the impact the CAB has for local residents.

Brian Gouldson, Citizens Advice Knowlsey Chief Officer said: “We are absolutely thrilled to welcome HRH The Princess Royal to officially launch our new premises in Kirkby.

“This was a really special day for our staff and marked a celebration of their work and the important role of the CAB in this locality.

“Our services have increased in demand over the last two years, and it was important for us that we adapted to the change in the needs of the local community. We have known we needed to leave our old premises for something better suited for six years but only when St. Modwen became landlords did we believe this was possible. The new office will ensure we’re capable of doing the best job possible, with better facilities both for staff, training of our volunteers and the members of the community who benefit from our services.”

Mike Matthews, Town Centre Manager said: “The CAB in an integral part of the community here in Kirkby, its services are increasingly in demand and it’s brilliant to see this offer extended. This was a special day and we are really pleased to have been a part in it.”
