Lidl is to open a new foodstore in Wellingborough as part of a 35,000 sq ft new retail and leisure scheme being developed by the UK’s leading regeneration specialist St. Modwen.
The discount supermarket will open a 22,500 sq ft store alongside a new McDonalds Drive- Thru and a further 8,000 sq ft of retail units.
The scheme sits on a key approach to Wellingborough’s town centre and lies adjacent the Beefeater Grill/Premier Inn Hotel and opposite the existing Castlefields Retail Park, which is home to M&S Simply Food, B&Q, Pizza Hut.
St. Modwen acquired the brownfield site in October 2013 through its Northern Home Counties region and achieved planning consent in April 2014. Construction works have already started on site and are due for completion in Summer 2015.
Gary Morris, Senior Development Manager at St. Modwen said that the project was meeting demand for new retail space in the town:
“Wellingborough is currently seeing a great deal of new investment and renewed occupier interest.
“The scheme’s location on a major route into the Town Centre, as well as its links to existing shopping and leisure is enabling us to deliver modern units for new operators, enhancing the choice to the local residents.”
Lidl has agreed the purchase of a 150 year lease whilst McDonalds will enter into a 25 year lease.
Prop Search is acting for St. Modwen on leasing.
