MEON VALE LEISURE CENTRE FLEXES ITS MUSCLES FOR THE SHAKESPEARE HOSPICE

The newest leisure centre in Stratford-upon-Avon is flexing its muscles in aid of The Shakespeare Hospice.

As Meon Vale Leisure Centre’s chosen charity for 2014/2015, The Shakespeare Hospice is set to benefit from a programme of fundraising events throughout the year hosted at the multi-million pound, purpose built centre at Meon Vale, near Long Marston, which is being built by St. Modwen as part of its broader regeneration of this 470 acre site.

The Shakespeare Hospice is an independent local charity providing specialist care for families affected by life limiting illness in South Warwickshire and the North Cotswolds. Their expert nursing care and support is delivered through multiple channels – a Day Hospice in Shottery, a Hospice at Home service and a Family Support Service. All are free for patients and their carers and families.

Meon Vale Leisure Centre Manager James Freeman said: “We are very pleased to be raising money for The Shakespeare Hospice. It is a fantastic charity that works hard to make a real difference to people suffering with terminal illnesses and their families and relies on donations. We really hope we can raise lots of money for them over the course of the year and raise the profile of the amazing work they do.”

The Shakespeare Hospice Events Fundraiser Lily Sutton said: “We are delighted that Meon Vale has chosen us as its charity. We are just over £20,000 off our target of £1.2 million which will enable us to add a bespoke youth facility to our day hospice and every little helps us to get that bit closer.”

Meon Vale Leisure Centre will kick off its fundraising with its inaugural launch party on Saturday 16th August. Touch Radio will broadcast live from the free community party which is hosting a variety of sports and activities including pilates, karate, speed gun football and cricket as well as the Meon Vale Huge Hula Hoop Challenge, animals, bouncy castle and gladiator dual, face painting and food and craft stalls. All are invited and will be encouraged to donate to The Shakespeare Hospice.

In addition, the Meon Vale Leisure Centre will be hosting Stratford’s first ever Colour Blast run in September to raise money for the Hospice. The 28th September will see runners and walkers, all wearing white, make their way round the 5km course whilst being showered in coloured powder paint, so that on completing the course they will resemble human rainbows. Meon Vale Leisure Centre is a multi-million pound facility dedicated to sports, fitness and wellbeing for all ages. Gym membership costs just £25 per month, beating all other gym and leisure membership deals in the Stratford-upon-Avon area. For more details visit www.meonvaleleisure.co.uk

Delivered by regeneration specialist St. Modwen, Meon Vale is the transformation of a 470 acre former Ministry of Defence site into a new Warwickshire community. Along with the leisure centre, St. Modwen is also creating a number of other important facilities as part of the first phase of development including a camping and caravan site, 18 apartments, a village hall, convenience store and 284 homes in partnership with Persimmon Homes.
