New Market Tavern carvery to open in Kirkby Town Centre

Expert developer and regeneration specialist, St. Modwen, has agreed a deal to bring a new pub and carvery to Kirkby Town Centre which will be opening its doors on Wednesday 20th February.

The Market Tavern, on the site of the former Weatherspoon’s in Kirkby, will create 25 new jobs in the town and will offer a carvery-style menu throughout the day and evening to appeal to both shoppers and those enjoying an evening out.

Patrons will be able to choose from a selection of traditional beers as well as a wide drinks menu at the newly-renovated pub.

Town centre manager Mike Matthews said: “Since the acquisition of Kirkby Town Centre in 2015, St. Modwen has brought many new operators to Kirkby and the Market Tavern represents a significant investment in the area. As footfall in the town continues to grow, we’re sure that this new offer will attract more people and further development.

“We are delighted that the owner is a local businessman, Tom Nash, who also owns other public houses across the region, including the Wellington Carvery in Prescott, the Johnny Todd in Kirkby, the Coach & Horses in Maghull and the Ship Inn near St Helen’s. Tom has made a substantial commitment to Kirkby by investing in this new venture and we’re delighted to welcome him and his team.”

Tom Nash, owner of the Market Tavern, added: “As the owner of other public houses in the area, I was looking to invest in my home town of Kirkby to bring new life to the town centre. I now employ 60 people across the region and am looking to grow the size of the pub estate further in future.”

St. Modwen acquired Kirkby Town Centre in November 2015 and the team has been working closely with Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council to develop plans for the Town Centre. For more information on the Company’s plans please visit: www.kirkbytowncentre.com
