Perseus Diary Story

A landbank of over 5,800 acres means that you become the owner of a few odd things over the years, as St Modwen has found out recently through its ownership of a statue of Greek mythological hero, Perseus. Dating back to 1840, the statue is the only copy of Italian master Benvenuto Cellini masterpiece, which came as part of St Modwen’s purchase of The Trentham Estate in 1996.

Having had a ‘hot wax’ and a polish the 3.7 metre high bronze sculpture, which was made in 1840 and weighs the same as an average adult elephant, is now on its way to London to take pride of place at an exhibition being held at The Royal Academy of Art’s major Autumn exhibition, ‘Bronze’.
