Planning go-ahead for £53 million regeneration of Edmonton Green Centre

A £53 million refurbishment and redevelopment scheme to regenerate Edmonton Green, one of London’s largest suburban shopping centres, is set to go ahead later this year.

St Modwen Developments (Edmonton) Ltd, a subsidiary of St Modwen Properties PLC, has received detailed planning consent for the major phase of the retail, leisure and residential scheme.

The detailed consent is for the creation of 33,250 sq m (357,912 sq ft) of new retail/leisure space, to include:

  • A 6,700 sq m (72,120 sq ft) local authority-run leisure centre comprising a six-lane 25 metre swimming pool, a leisure/ training pool, fitness studio, dance studio, sports hall and adventure play area.
  • A new 26-stand bus station.
  • 162 residential units
  • 10,000 sq m (107,643 sq ft) of retail shopping space

Colin McQueston, Asset Manager of St Modwen, said: “We acquired Edmonton Green in 1999 and more than a year ago completed the remodelling of the indoor market square. The granting of planning permission for the major part of the scheme is a significant milestone and paves the way for the transformation of the centre to begin in the autumn.”

St Modwen has a long leasehold interest in Edmonton Green Shopping Centre, the freehold of which is held by Enfield Borough Council. St Modwen and Enfield are working in close partnership in effecting this important regeneration project.
