Plans submitted for £5m redevelopment in Doncaster

St. Modwen, the UK’s leading regeneration specialist, has submitted a planning application to Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council for the £5 million development of the former Tyco Electronics Factory on Wheatley Hall Road, Doncaster. The application has been submitted in partnership with Cooper Lighting who shared the site with Tyco and who continue to operate on the site.

Following Tyco’s departure from Wheatley Hall Road early in 2010, St. Modwen has worked with Cooper Lighting to formulate a scheme that enables them to remain at the site well into the future within an expanded well serviced facility. St. Modwen’s understanding approach has helped retain hundreds of jobs in the area as well as accelerating alternative job creation via new facilities on the redundant site.

The application will, if granted, bring much needed sport and recreational facilities to the area. These will include a Goals Soccer Centre and a family-friendly public house, together with a range of other potential roadside and retail uses, as well as new car parking facilities for Cooper Lighting. All of which will revitalise this once prominent Doncaster site.

Stephen Prosser, Yorkshire and the North East regional director at St. Modwen, said: “We have spent some considerable time consulting with Doncaster Council and Cooper Lighting in order to go forward with the proposals. Our over-riding aim has been to ensure that Cooper Lighting’s long term future is secured and that a significant number of jobs are maintained –and indeed created – on this vital site for Doncaster.”
