Woolwich’s local community is being invited to view updated plans for the regeneration of Spray Street Quarter (the land in Woolwich town centre between Plumstead Road and Spray Street) at a two-day public exhibition on Friday 21 April and Saturday 22 April.
Ambitious plans to transform the 4.6 acre site, which includes the covered market opposite Royal Arsenal, have been drawn up by the Spray Street Quarter Limited Liability Partnership (LLP), a joint venture between St. Modwen, the UK’s leading regeneration specialist, and Notting Hill Housing, one of London’s largest housing associations. The Spray Street Quarter LLP is working in partnership with the Royal Borough of Greenwich to deliver the scheme.
The Spray Street Quarter regeneration will bring homes, shops, bars, restaurants and a new cinema to form a vibrant new hub of evening activity and herald the next chapter in Woolwich’s transformation into a dynamic metropolitan town centre.
The multi-million pound proposals include a new public square as well as tranquil residents’ gardens. The development comprises:
- · Up to 750 new homes (a mix of one, two, three and four bedroom apartments, as well as townhouses for families)
- · An independent cinema
- · New shops, restaurants and cafés
- · Leisure facilities
- · A children’s nursery
- · Flexible workspace for start-ups and smaller offices.
The development will create a community-oriented and people-friendly environment. It will offer a gateway to the centre of Woolwich, linking together existing communities, the town centre and Royal Arsenal to form a new focus for the town.
Along with improving the area for residents, the new independent cinema and restaurants will transform the evening economy in Woolwich – making the area an attractive and vibrant place for local people and visitors alike.
The April public exhibition follows a consultation last summer where initial plans were well-received by the local community – over 80% of respondents supported the emerging vision.
This new event will give the community another opportunity to meet the development team and discuss the more developed plans for Spray Street Quarter.
The Spray Street Quarter LLP is committed to delivering 35% of the new homes as affordable, both for purchase and to rent.
As well as helping tackle London’s housing crisis, the plans are set to trigger a major boost to Woolwich’s economy, generating hundreds of jobs for local people both during construction and from the new retail, leisure and employment spaces that will be delivered on the site.
Spray Street Quarter is exceptionally located for public transport; it is a one minute walk from the DLR station and the forthcoming Elizabeth Line (Crossrail) station at Royal Arsenal. Crossrail will open in 2018 and allow Woolwich residents to reach the City (Liverpool Street) in 14 minutes and the West End (Bond Street) in only 22 minutes.

The public exhibition will take place at the Greenwich and Lewisham Young People’s Theatre (The Tramshed), 51-53 Woolwich New Road, London SE18 6ES, from 4pm – 8pm on Friday 21 April, and 11am – 4pm on Saturday 22 April.
The team will review all of the feedback and comments received during the consultation in advance of submitting their plans later this year.
