Public Exhibition for Longbridge plans

Members of the public will have their first opportunity to view detailed plans for the proposed £750 million regeneration of Longbridge, when the UK’s leading regeneration specialist St Modwen stages two exhibitions in the area.

The first exhibition will take place on Thursday 19 June from 5pm to 8pm at The Austin Sports and Social Club on Tessall Lane, Longbridge. This will be followed by a second exhibition at Cofton Hackett Village Hall, Barnt Green Road on Saturday 21 June from 9am to 12pm.

The exhibitions follow the submission of four major planning applications covering 468 acres of the former MG Rover site at Longbridge. The plans demonstrate the shared vision of St Modwen and joint landowner Advantage West Midlands to create more than 10,000 new jobs and 1,980 new homes over the next 15 years, and were submitted to Birmingham City Council and Bromsgrove District Council in May.

Mike Murray, senior development manager for St Modwen will be joined by architects Barton Willmore, planning consultants Planning Prospects and lead consultant Halcrow Yolles for the public exhibitions. All will be on hand to talk informally to local residents and other interested parties on the future of Longbridge, and the plans for the area will be on display.

According to Mike Murray, the public exhibitions play an important role in the planning process. He said: “Those living in and around Longbridge have taken a huge interest in the future of the area, and have been right at the heart of our decision making processes throughout the pre planning process.

“The submission of the four major planning applications for Longbridge represented a huge milestone in the lifespan of this project and staging the two exhibitions gives those behind the project a chance to further engage with the local community at this key stage in its delivery. I would urge those who want to find out more about the proposals to come along on one of the two dates – or log onto the website www.longbridgebirmingham.co.uk.”
