SCHOOL PUPILS PICK UP SITE SAFETY TIPS FROM ST. MODWEN HOMES

Pupils at a Stoke primary school were paid a visit by St. Modwen Homes to teach them about staying safe on building sites.

Around 200 children at Oakhill Primary School were given a lesson about the dangers and hazards which can be found on a construction site, encouraging them not to play on live developments.

The lesson was led by Senior Site Manager Carl Bradshaw, who is heading up the team at Trentham Manor, where St. Modwen Homes is building a range of new houses off Stanley Matthews Way. He was joined by Considerate Constructors’ Mascot, Honor Goodsite.

As part of the visit, students also took part in a competition to design a health and safety themed poster, with the most creative entries set to be showcased as part of the hoarding at Trentham Manor.

Katy Huddleston, year five teacher at Oakhill Primary School, said: “The visit from St. Modwen Homes was a great way of raising awareness of the dangers of construction sites, and the children were all very interested in the work which goes on at new developments like this.

“The visit conveyed an important message to our pupils, while also being fun and interactive at the same time. They enjoyed trying on all of the safety equipment and pointing out the hazards. Seeing the diggers and big machines which are used was exciting as well.

“The lesson was a great success and we’d like to thank St. Modwen Homes for taking the time to teach our children how to stay safe.”

Carl Bradshaw from St. Modwen Homes said: “It is vital that we are able to get out to schools in the areas in which we build to promote staying safe near our sites and we’re pleased that the children learnt some valuable lessons.

“At St. Modwen Homes we take health and safety very seriously, not just for our on-site teams, but for visitors and the general public who live or work in the vicinity of our developments as well. We follow best practice at all times to ensure everybody is as safe as possible near our sites.”

St. Modwen Homes voluntarily abides by the Considerate Constructors Scheme, which is designed to encourage best practice at construction sites to keep staff and visitors to the development safe, limit the impact of construction on the environment and respect the local community.

There is currently a range of two, three, four and five-bedroom homes available to buy at Trentham Manor, with prices starting from £169,995.
