Screwfix’ major building completed on schedule
Stoke-on-Trent Regeneration Ltd, the joint venture vehicle of St Modwen Properties PLC and Stoke City Council, has achieved practical completion of the 29,960 sq m (322,496 sq ft) distribution hub, developed on Trentham Lakes for Screwfix Direct, within the agreed tight time frame.
The biggest development on the 400-acre Trentham Lakes development was accomplished in just over 12 months from the initial concept. In the past 18 months major ‘shed’ deals on the development have totalled more than 60,385 sq m (650,000 sq ft).
Screwfix Direct is now undertaking extensive fitting-out works which are scheduled to be completed early in 2004.
The leading mail order and on-line supplier of screws, fittings and tools, will create some 650 new jobs when it becomes fully operational on the site.
Stoke-on-Trent Regeneration, will have created nearly 2,000 jobs on its Trentham Lakes scheme when Screwfix is in residence.
Richard Butler, HR director of Screwfix, said: “This is a significant investment and a major step forward in the development of our business. It is being successfully achieved through good business partnerships with Stoke-on-Trent Regeneration.”
