Shops and apartments to be built on former Dairies depot site

Widnes Regeneration Ltd, the joint company between St Modwen Properties PLC and Halton Borough Council, is to develop  retail units with  residential apartments above on the site of the former United Dairies depot  in Widnes Town Centre.

The scheme,  which  has been granted planning consent, has been christened Liebig Court as it is being built on the site of the former Liebig Street which itself was named after the famous 19th century German chemist Justus Liebig because of Widnes’ historic connection with the chemical industry.

The five  retail units totalling about  650 sq m (7,000 sq ft) ,which will be directly opposite the new Asda foodstore, will have two floors of apartments above together with a separate residential development at the rear of the site.

Dixon Webb is marketing the site to select a residential partner for Widnes Regeneration. Paul Batho of St Modwen, said: “Liebig Court will form another significant step forward in implementing Halton Borough Council’s and Widnes Regeneration’s plans to regenerate the centre of Widnes.”
