SPOTFEST CELEBRATES MOST SUCCESSFUL YEAR TO DATE

Hoards of music fans took advantage of the weekend’s heat wave and descended upon Dursley for local music festival, SpotFest, yesterday (Sunday 14 July).

For one day only, popular pub, Old Spot Inn, transformed its garden into a festival showground with three acts taking to the stage to delight audiences whilst they basked in the baking sunshine.

Sponsored by St. Modwen Homes – the developer behind the newly launched houses at the Littlecombe site on Lister Road – the event attracted 300 people, far surpassing expectations and almost doubling the amount that attended last year’s festival.

This year SpotFest was headlined by Thrill Collins; the first band to play at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.

Steve Herbert, pub landlord at The Old Spot Inn said: “We’re overwhelmed by how many people attended this year’s SpotFest. The atmosphere was incredible, with the sun out and people laughing and smiling all day whilst enjoying music from some very talented local bands. It was perfect!

“SpotFest is now the most popular event that we’ve held and I would like to thank our sponsors, St. Modwen Homes, for helping to make it even bigger and better this year.

“We originally hosted the music festival in 2012 as a substitute for Glastonbury not taking place that year. Last year was brilliant but this year surpassed all expectations – I can safely say that it will now be returning as an annual event, helping to showcase different musicians  from across the Cotswolds.”

The Old Spot Inn’s own barmaid, Nancy Robb, performed as the lead singer of The Whole Grand Scheme, offering a selection of hits from Foo Fighters to Britney Spears, as well as some of their own songs. Local band, The Macaroni Penguins also played at the festival.

Neil Simpson, sales and marketing director at St. Modwen Homes said: “Dursley is a fantastic market town in the heart of the Cotswolds and community events such as SpotFest help to make it an incredibly friendly and welcoming place to live.

“Supporting the local community is very important to St. Modwen Homes and we always strive to get involved with activities and events that are taking place in the vicinity of our developments. SpotFest is a great platform for showcasing talented local bands and we are incredibly proud to be part of this successful event.”
