ST. MODWEN AND HALTON COUNCIL AWARDED FOR WIDNES REGENERATION

St. Modwen Properties and Halton Council have won the inaugural Strategic Alliance Award at this year’s Insider North West Property Awards.

They were recognised for their joint achievements with Widnes Regeneration Ltd, which was established in 1999 to tackle the issues faced in Widnes town centre.

The Strategic Alliance Award was established this year to ‘recognise the importance of partnership working at a time when finance is hard to come by’.

Michelle Taylor, regional director of St. Modwen, said: “Our close partnership with the council has been a key factor in helping us drive the regeneration of Widnes forward. Even in an extremely challenging market we have managed to deliver, and we are delighted our joint achievements have been recognised”.

In the last decade, Widnes Regeneration Ltd has completely transformed and revitalised the town centre, leading to substantial new investment in adjoining areas.

Its list of achievements includes the delivery of:

• 40,000 sq ft of local shopping

• 80,000 sq ft foodstore

• 50,000 sq ft retail and leisure development

• 76 social housing units

• 150 private homes

• 150,000 sq ft of employment space

• The creation of over 900 jobs

Organisers of the event referred to the project as a “shining example of the value of partnership working, delivering employment, leisure and laying foundations for further growth”.

Over 870 guests were at Manchester Central to see Widnes Regeneration pick up the award at the glittering black tie event, which was hosted by TV star Jimmy Carr. The awards comprise thirteen different categories and are decided by an independent panel of judges covering areas of expertise right across the commercial property spectrum.
