St. Modwen, the UK’s leading regeneration specialist, has completed the sale of 1.3 acre former supermarket to

NHS East Lancashire for the development of a £10 million, state-of-the-art medical centre.

The 5,000 sq ft centre, at Craddock Street, Colne, will include GP practices as well as mobile surgery units to bring diagnostic and minor operation facilities into the community.

Building works are expected to start on site during 2009 and the new facility is scheduled to open by early 2011. Richard Bakes, Development Manager for St. Modwen, said: “We have worked hard alongside the Council and NHS to secure early planning permission for this important new facility for the community.

“We hope the new medical centre will act as a catalyst for the wider regeneration of the area, attracting more people into the town centre.”

The new facility is part of NHS East Lancashire’s plans to bring more primary health services closer to people’s homes. As well as accommodating five GP practices, the centre will also provide services such as physiotherapy, out-patient and an ambulance response team.

Outline planning permission for the four storey centre was granted in February this year
