St. Modwen, the UK’s leading regeneration specialist, has handed over the keys to the brand new 80,000 sq ft Tesco superstore at the £50 million transformation of Hednesford town centre.

Located in Victoria Shopping Park, the Tesco store has been built by Vinci Construction and is set to open to the public on Monday November 26, creating hundreds of new jobs in the area. The store has been built on stilts and will open 24 hours Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.

Neal Haywood, Construction Manager at St. Modwen, said: “We are very pleased to hand over this building nearly a week early. This flagship Tesco store is at the heart of the £50 million new retail centre in Hednesford, which is generating hundreds of jobs and breathing new life into the town.”

Store manager Richard Betts said: “It will be a fantastic new store for the local community and we just can’t wait now for the doors to open.”

St. Modwen’s 10 acre Hednesford transformation stretches across Victoria Shopping Park and another development called Chase Gateway and comprises retail space, leisure facilities and more than 800 car parking spaces.

Victoria Shopping Park opens for trading in December, with other units snapped up by Costa Coffee, Pets Corner, Phones 4u and Lloyds Pharmacy who are all keen to take advantage of Christmas trading. Fronting the realigned Victoria Street, the Park also features a 10,000 sq ft community facility which will open in the New Year, replacing the former Aquarius Community Centre/Dance Hall.

At Chase Gateway, a purpose built building has been delivered for Hednesford Bingo and work is underway on a new 15,650 sq ft Aldi store which is set to open in Spring 2013. Chase Gateway also offers new units fronting Market Street and the A460 Rugeley Road which are ideal for traditional high street operators and convenience shops.

Remaining retail units across Victoria Shopping Park and Chase Gateway range from 610 sq ft to 12,820 sq ft and St. Modwen is holding discussions with several interested retailers, with names to be announced soon.
