ST. MODWEN GAINS CONSENT FOR 650-HOME SCHEME AT KEY THAMES GATEWAY SITE
St. Modwen, the UK’s leading regeneration specialist, has received outline planning permission for its 650-home scheme in South Ockendon, Essex. The scheme for the former Ford factory on Arisdale Avenue was granted consent by the Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation on 2 August and will form a key part to the delivery of new housing in the region.
St. Modwen acquired the 12.5 ha (31 acre) site from Ford in 2006 and its proposals include plans for new apartments, three and four bedroom family homes, extensive landscaping and public space. The site is in a highly sustainable location within close proximity to South Ockendon railway station.
Colin Darby, Planning Manager at St. Modwen, stated:
“Our proposals for South Ockendon will give this former industrial site a new lease of life. St. Modwen is an expert in bringing sites like these back into community use; the Arisdale Avenue site is a key regeneration opportunity in the Thames Gateway and it will be a great development.”
The scheme is expected to be delivered from 2014. In the meantime, the site will continue to operate as a managed industrial estate until December 2013.
