ST. MODWEN HANDS OVER COOMBS WOOD SPORTS AND SOCIAL CLUB
St. Modwen, the UK’s leading regeneration specialist, has handed over the new Coombs Wood Sports and Social Club in Halesowen, securing the future of Coombs Wood Cricket Club.
Located on a five acre site off Stewarts Road on the Coombeswood Green Wedge, the club boasts a new cricket ground in addition to new practice nets, a bowling green and a pavilion building with club and committee rooms, bar, kitchen area, changing rooms, toilets and store rooms built to Sport England standards.
The ownership of the new premises has been transferred to the Club, meaning its long term future in the area is now secured.
Coombs Wood Sports and Social Club chairman Nick Jones said: “We are very pleased with our new facilities which are benefitting all our sports and social members. We have already attracted considerable interest from the new local residents and have received several membership applications.
“Our previous club in Coombs Road was out of date and did not provide adequate facilities for our cricket club members, but these new top class facilities and larger ground will enable them to invest and plan for the future.”
Ian Romano, Senior Development Surveyor at St. Modwen said: “We are pleased to hand over these new facilities and secure the future of the cricket club, helping its members improve and develop their game.”
The Coombs Wood Sports and Social Club is part of St. Modwen’s £2 million scheme to create new homes and provide improved sports, educational and environmental facilities in the area.
A total of 59 homes are being built on the former site off Coombs Road, while the nearby Olive Hill Primary School is set to benefit from new grass pitches, tarmac playing areas, an Early Years Learning Centre and an environmental zone.
St. Modwen will also be making extensive biodiversity improvements to the Green Wedge. A total of 12 acres of currently fenced off land will also be reinstated for public access with £60,000 of funding provided for a Green Wedge warden to be employed three days a week for five years.
